On Tuesday 1st March the Gallions Senior Orchestra and Choir went to the regional rounds of Music For Youth. In total 43 children travelled to the Union Chapel in Islington to perform for the Music Mentors and children from other schools.
Since their success at the Stratford & East London Music Festival the children have been practicing hard and it certainly showed! They performed Ungaresca and the Elbow Medley even better than they did at Stratford & East London Music Festival.
Gallions was the only string orchestra to compete; other groups included an early music ensemble, a samba band, a horn quintet and a number of choirs. It was a wonderful variety of music and the Gallions children were a good audience to the other groups.
The Music Mentors said that it was ‘Fantastic to see so many young string players’. The double bass section was praised particularly highly as was the leader of the orchestra. The Music Mentors also gave the children a few musical points to work to make the next performance even better. We will not know whether we have been put through to the national festival for a while – so stay tuned!
