Could you help us to improve the experience of children and adults living in a highly deprived area of East London through the power of music?
We are looking to appoint additional trustees to the Gallions Music Trust (GMT).
The GMT’s principal goal is financially to support the music programme at Gallions Primary School. Gallions is an ethnically diverse state primary in Beckton in the London Borough of Newham. The school was founded in 1997 in the belief that music education can be life-changing, raising the aspirations, the confidence and the skills of pupils, skills which both enhance learning in the classroom and beyond. And so from the age of 6 all pupils learn a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or double bass) until they leave aged 11.
Here is a letter written by Sheila Hancock published online in the Guardian about Music at Gallions Primary School. Read it here: https://www.theguardian.com/education/2017/jun/25/music-is-at-the-very-heart-of-one-east-end-school
We want to broaden the range of skills amongst our board of trustees, raise more funds and have a greater impact in the community. We are particularly keen to recruit people who have experience in one or more of the following:
- working in the arts sector
- PR & marketing
We are especially keen to hear from black, Asian and minority ethnic applicants and people with disabilities.
This is a voluntary position. Board meetings are held 3 times a year, usually at Gallions, but you will also be expected to attend school concerts and take an interest in the musical life of the school.
