The Gallions Senior Orchestra was thrilled to be invited to perform in not one but two concerts alongside violinist Michael Bochmann as part of Water City Music (www.watercitymusic.com). Michael Bochmann is a wonderful violinist and is a violin professor at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
On Wednesday 17th May our Year 5 orchestral musicians went to Clifford Chance to perform Amazing Grace and Vivalid’s Spring as part of a lunchtime concert in a packed auditorium. Our pupils also had the opportunity to listen to Michael and his accompanist Esther Cavett perform a Sonatina by Dvorak, Monti’s famous violin show piece Czardas, Nigun by Ernest Bloch and a trio of Howard Skempton Miniatures. Before the concert Esther introduced the children to the musical themes they would hear in the Dvorak which enhanced their experience in the concert.
On Friday 19th May it was the turn of our Year 6 pupils in Senior Orchestra to perform with Michael and Esther at St George the Martyr Church on Borough High Street. This was a new performance venue for the children and we really enjoyed the acoustics! The orchestra performed Amazing Grace and Vivalid’s Spring alongside Mr Bochmann. The concert was the launch of Water City Music’s schools concert series at the church and we hope to return for another concert next year.
