Last year our wonderful new Music Centre was opened for use and has been an amazing resource for our pupils and staff. On Thursday 15th October 2015, we held an official launch event as a celebration of all we achieved in building this new facility. It was also an opportunity to thank all those who generously supported us both through financial donations and offering their time and expertise.
We were thrilled to be able to welcome our sponsors and supporters for many of whom it was their first opportunity to see the Music Centre. We were also joined by representatives from local primary schools and music services.
Throughout the evening our pupils were a credit to the school. Several groups performed to a very high standard including the Senior Orchestra, Senior Choir, Bass Attack and Vivace Strings. One of the Senior Choir songs required audience participation and it was wonderful to see everyone throwing themselves into it. After performing in orchestra Abigail Onifade (Mariachi class) gave a brilliant speech about her experience of Music at Gallions. Paul Broadhurst, a trustee for the Gallions Music Trust, also spoke about the transformative impact of music on his life and why what we do here at Gallions is so important.
Together with the school’s ‘Cook-it Co-Ordinator’ Jolien Benjamin, the Gallions Nurture Group became a catering company for the evening, providing a selection of delicious vegetarian canapés for our guests. During the term they had been busy designing the menu and practicing preparing the food. On the night they confidently told our guests about the ingredients they had used, the processes involved in making the food and their experiences of being in the kitchen.
Our guests were incredibly impressed by the level of professionalism both from the musicians and our catering group. It was a fabulous celebration of all we have achieved in building this new facility. The future of Music at Gallions promises to be an exciting time ahead.
